Let’s visit the Beach ~ Cost factor: 0-$

Whether it’s a sand castle, handstands in the water, a refreshing swim, or relaxing in the sand, the beach is always a fun day for everyone.

Since we live in Nova Scotia and the warm-enough-to-swim weather only graces us a couple months of the year, we try to go to the beach as much as possible each summer. Now, when I say beach, I don’t mean the breathtaking, crystal-blue-water and the white sandy beaches you may be imagining, but we love it nonetheless.

Beach Checklist:

If you’re anything like me, you might want to make a little checklist so you don’t get to the beach only to realize you left something at home. Here is my beach checklist:

  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Goggles
  • Towels
  • Waterproof bag for wet towels
  • Extra clothes (or swimsuit if you don’t wear it to the beach)
  • Picnic lunch (swimming always makes you hungry)
  • Water (lots to drink)
  • And of course, beach toys.

The beach we go to the most is actually a lake but they have it set up perfectly to cater to children. There is a little canteen, several picnic tables and also a playground, so we really can’t go wrong.

Another fun thing about the beach we go to is that there are always ducks there. They are really tame and will eat right from your hand if you are quiet and still enough. We realized quickly if you want to make new friends, the way to a duck’s heart is through its belly. After feeding them, the ducks decided to bathe in the sun right beside us.

The kids love to swim in the lake and can often see fish swimming at their feet.

When they aren’t swimming, they’re digging in the sand or at the playground on the slide or climbing equipment.

What I love about taking the kids to the beach is that the day flies by. We start off in the morning and by the time we are ready to leave, it’s usually late afternoon. This is always a no-fail summer activity.

The best part is, the kids always have an awesome sleep after a day in the sun. And I usually do, too. That’s a total win-win, right?

So, make the plan, pack a picnic, load the kids in the car and find your favorite beach to go to. Enjoy your day and don’t forget to comment down below the name of the beach you spent your day at.

Until next time…Remember: Life is what you make it. Take lots of pictures.
